5- Personal safety
• When working with chemical you should always wear a 4H glove and safety glasses or a face mask.
• All chemicals must be approved and marked.
• Always examine your gloves for defects before and after use.
• Discard the gloves if you get chemicals on them or if you find defects such as holes.
• When using the fume cabinet, inform co-workers if you are using particularly hazardous chemicals which their own gloves may not be resistant to.
• Empty and rinse the beakers after use and put them back in their place.
• Always wipe up drops of water or chemicals.
• 4H gloves are always to be used when working with HF.
• Chemical waste must be thrown out in the corresponding labeled containers.
• When finished with a fume cabinet, ensure that ALL the equipment/tools you have used has been removed or stored properly. If apparatus has been left to cool down or solvents to evaporate then leave a note informing other cleanroom users as to the hazard and your name and date/time.
• Hotplates are widely used within the cleanroom; therefore care and attention should be maintained when using them. Always inform your co-workers when it is in use and if left unattended, leave a note to state that it is hot and the operator using it.
• You are not allowed to work with wet chemistry or to enter the service areas outside normal working hours.
• If you have to work with chemicals, you have to be at least 2 persons in the cleanroom.
