Research directions

KAIN has directed towards focusing its research and development efforts on the vital fields of economic priority in the Kingdom, according to the Strategic Plan for Nanotechnology set by King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST).  These fields include renewable energy, water purification, nanomedicine and environmental nanotechnology.
Research along these research directions has been found on two main parts. First, KAIN has its own permanent principal research groups, composed of KAIN full-time researchers, and sustained by the other KAIN supporting units, such as the unit of laboratories affairs and the unit of project and invention support, as well as by the Master/PhD theses carried out in KAIN laboratories. Second, KAIN has a deeply rooted national-wide network of research collaborations, both within and outside King Saud University. These collaborations involve a wide spectrum of faculties, colleges, national laboratories and research centers in the kingdom as well as specialized international collaborations in the field of nanotechnology.

KAIN Research Directors are:

•    Renewable energy: Includes solar sensitive and dyed cells (which works on the manufacture and development of solar pigment cells and interest in the studies of radioactive scanned nanomaterials), fuel cells, super-capacitors and renewable energy.
•    Water purification: Includes water treatment and purification, membranes technology (which works on the development of membranes for water treatment of a nano modified, where they are working on the development of these membranes to increase the permeability of filtered water and prolong its life span) and the development of chemical methods for the preparation of multiple applications of nanomaterials.
•    Nanomedicine: Includes nanomedicine, sensors, bio photography and biotechnology.
•    Environmental Nanotechnology: includes the preparation and processing of nanomaterials by an friendly environmentally ways which used in applications for the removal of environmental pollutants.
