"Silicon-based nanosilicon composites and fabrication methods"
Abdullah Saleh Aldwayyan, Mohamad Saleh Alsalhi, Abdulrahman Mohammed Aldukhai, Mansour S. AlhoshanMuhammad Naziruddin Khan, Ghassan K. Al-Chaar and Munir H. Nayfeh

Abstract : Embodiments of the invention provide organosilicon silicon nanoparticle composites, where the silicon nanoparticles are highly luminescent. Preferred embodiments of the invention are Si—O solid composite networks, e.g., glass, having a homogenous distribution of luminescent hydrogen terminated silicon nanoparticles in a homogenous distribution throughout the solid. Embodiments of the invention also provide fabrication processes for organosilicon silicon nanoparticle composites. A preferred method for forming an organosilicon nanoparticle composite disperses hydrogen terminated silicon nanoparticles and an inorganic precursor of an organosilicon gel in an aprotic solvent to form a sol. A catalyst is mixed into the sol. The sol is then permitted to dry into a gel of the organosilicon nanoparticle composite.

3) US 8,296,077 B2 , U.S.A. Patent office, issued, 23 October 2012 and 2815 , King Abdulaziz City For Science and Technology (KACST), issued, 26 Nov. 2011

" Food Additive Detector "
Fawziah S. Almiman

Abstract : Systems and methods for a handheld Food Additive Detector are described. In one aspect, the food additive detector includes a test strip treated with or comprising chemical(s) reactive to at least one target characteristic (e.g., additive(s), compound(s) created as a result of state/old food, etc.). Responsive to a food sample being placed on the strip, a sensor operatively coupled to the handheld device measures one or more of the strip characteristics (e.g., color, contrast, etc.) resulting from placement of the sample on the strip. The device analyzes the sensor measurement value(s) to determine presence, quantity, concentration, percentage, relative amount, and/or so on, of the target food additive(s), or other characteristics of the food that pertain, for example, to freshness or staleness. Results of the analysis are presented to a user.

4) US 8,077,048 B2 , U.S.A. Patent office, issued, 13 December 2011

" Smoke Monitor System "
Fawziah S. Almiman

Abstract : Systems and methods for a smoke monitor are described. In one aspect, a smoke monitor includes a detector to sense when a user lights a smoking device such as a cigarette, pipe, etc. In one implementation, for example, such detection is made by detecting the audible sound of a lighter, via a smoke detector, and/or so on. In one implementation, the smoke monitor includes a counter that counts the number of smoking devices lit by a user, for example, over a predetermined amount of time. Exceeding a threshold number of smoking devices (e.g., lighting one or more smoking devices) over that period of time may cause the smoke monitor to implement one or more configurable events such as audio alarms, vibrations, etc. In one implementation, and responsive to the smoke monitor detecting smoke, a particle generator coupled to the smoke monitor generates particles to freshen surrounding air.

“ Surface plasmon-based nanosensors and systems and methods for sensing photons and chemical or biological agent “
Talal Alghannam

Abstract : The system utilizes the narrow spectral width of the light emitted from the system of nano-laser embedded within PBG material to detect the changes in the plasmon resonance of nano particle due to its interaction with photons and/or various chemical or bio-chemical agents, depending on the design of the system, and hence being able to detect the identity if these agents or the properties of the photons.

" Solid State Nano-Based Optical Logic Gate "
Talal Alghannam

Abstract : The system utilizes the novel properties of modulated zero-pulse area solitary pulses, combined with the unique properties of Photonic Band Gap (PBG) material, to produce time-delay in electromagnetic pulses due to their interaction with the dipole moments of embedded nano-particles. One usage of the system is optical logic gates or optical processors.

8) WO 2013/07477A1, U.S.A. Patent office, Published, 23 May 2013

" Bioimaging Nucleic acids, Proteins and Enzymes "
Khalid M. Abu-Salah
Salman A. Alrokayan and Abdullah M.I. Mashhour

Abstract : Systems and methods for labeling, staining, and bioimaging of nucleic acids, their fragments, proteins, polypeptides and enzymes are described. In one aspect, a percentage concentration agarose gel or polyacrylamide gel is generated with agarose or polyacrylamide powder respectively. Silicon nanoparticles are added to the agarose or polyacrylamide gel at a required concentration via the agarose or polyacrylamide powder or after agarose or polyacrylamide solubilization in a loading buffer. The nucleic acid is added to agarose gel slots and proteins or enzymes are added to polyacrylamide gel slots in the loading buffer. The loading buffer is then electrophoresed in each case for an amount of time, causing the added silicon nanoparticles or the added ethidium bromide (after agarose solubilization) to generate a bound and labeled nucleic acid and their fragments and proteins or enzymes (with silicon nanoparticles only).
